For the first time in more than a decade I will not be making any resolutions for 2025.
Year after year, in the last days of December I spent some time at what at best could be called focusing on my future, but more realistically could be called wishful thinking.
Usually these resolutions revolved about improvements in my Polish Translation business, some work on my website and work on my fitness.
Sometimes it even worked out and I managed to get some new clients for Polish translation.
The thing is that after the first month or so I would stop checking this long list and by June it was long forgotten. In fact the only resolution I managed to consistently keep is reading 52 books a year. The thing is that I track it through the Goodreads and writing it down amongst new year resolutions has no impact on the results.
A few days ago I watched a new video from the guru of productivity – @Ali Abdal and the idea struck me like a potential game changer for the next year.
The idea comes from a book “The 12 Week Year” by Brian P. Morgan and Michael Lennington. Which in turn brings to everyday Joe well known in the world of business and sport of periodization based on periods lasting 12 week or three months.
Maybe it is because I am ready for change, but if someone would give me such a nugget of wisdom in the past, I would immediately buy the book, read some of it, proceed to buy another two books mentioned in that one and refrain from any action.
This time instead I plan to implement it. If I understand correctly what Ali is saying, the entire idea is to create a few main priorities for each quarter and instead of forgetting of them, consistently work on implementation.
To support the implementation, the strategy includes weekly review sessions when one is supposed to revise the realization of priorities in any given week and very short session every morning spent on analyzing top priority for that particular day.
All in all it looks like a chance for those of us who are less organized (like me) to bring some order to the personal growth and development.
So come January 1st I will start implementing my 3 priorities for the first quarter:
- Promote my website so that it would suport my Polish Translation business
- Create something on a weekly basis and
- Return to running
I am really curious how it will play out. One thing is certain – it cannot be any worse from my yearly resolutions/wishlist 🙂
Are you going to try something new in 2025?
