I recently turned 50. It’s a number that inevitably makes you pause and reflect — on where you’ve been, what really matters, and where you want to go next.
For me, it’s also the right moment to take a fresh look at my professional direction and the way I present my work online. While my career has evolved considerably over the last two decades, my website hasn’t always kept up. So over the coming weeks, I’m giving ConsultingTranslator.com a thorough update.
From translation to consulting
I started working professionally as an English–Polish translator in 2006. Twenty years later, translation is still at the heart of what I do, but it’s no longer the whole story.
Today, my work also includes localisation and linguistic QA, terminology management, style guides, marketing copy review and advice on how businesses and organisations can communicate more effectively with Polish audiences.
The “Consulting” in Consulting Translator has become increasingly important.
A website that reflects where I am today
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be reviewing and rebuilding different parts of the site. The aim is not just to make it look newer, but to explain more clearly what I do, where my expertise lies and when it makes sense to involve an experienced linguist rather than simply send a document for translation.
I’ll also be updating my case studies, services and resources, and — most importantly — getting back to regular blogging.
I have plenty of ideas for future posts, including:
- Polish localisation and what it really involves
- Legal translation and working with sensitive content
- Terminology, style guides and consistency
- Translation technology and AI — opportunities and limitations
- Marketing to Polish audiences
- The small linguistic and cultural decisions that can make the difference between copy that has merely been translated and copy that actually works in Polish
Why now?
Turning 50 feels like a good moment to take stock. Not to reinvent everything for the sake of it, but to make sure the direction still fits the person and professional I have become.
Some changes are already live, with plenty more to come. If you’re visiting the site while things are still a work in progress, thank you for your patience — and do come back soon. It should keep getting better.
